MAPS Award of Recognition

The MAPS Award of Recognition is given to a person who has made extraordinary contributions to the institution, for the student at graduation, or for the student completing coursework with the highest achievement. The certificate will be presented formally at some important meeting or event and publicly announced that the commendation is also made by MAPS.

MAPS Exceptional Service Award

The MAPS Exceptional Service Award is given to planetarium staff who have gone “above or beyond the call of service” in work related to the planetarium field. Colleagues and co-workers may nominate candidates for the MAPS Exceptional Service Award.

MAPS Fellow

The MAPS Fellow award, established in 2010, is to recognize those members of the organization who maintain an active membership status of a minimum of 7 consecutive years and at least one of the following criteria:

  • Held an elective office or served on the MAPS Board
  • Served as a conference host
  • Provided significant service to the Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society
  • Made a significant contribution to planetarium methodology, technology or education.

MAPS Distinguished Service Award

The MAPS highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award, is a special recognition for outstanding, long-term service and dedication to the planetarium field on a local, regional, or national basis. Nominees should exhibit qualities of leadership, inspiration, vision, commitment to excellence, and a passion for the planetarium community.
