It is a small, well-equipped department with its graduates pursuing graduate school, professional school, teaching positions and industrial positions. The planetarium is located in the Health and Natural Sciences Building on the UNG campus. The star theater seats 42 and houses a new Evans and Sutherland Digistar 5 projector with a thirty-foot diameter dome. There are weekly public shows and specially scheduled shows for school groups and other organizations.

The responsibilities of the Lecturer include the development and the presentation of many of our K-12 school programs, as well as our public show presentations. Candidates should have a demonstrable knowledge of astronomy, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in physics, astronomy or Earth and space science. We are also looking for candidates with at least two years experience in education/public outreach and some experience in planetarium operation. The ideal candidate will have (in addition to the requirements above) a passion for both K-12 education (including knowledge of current science standards) and public outreach, experience using the latest fulldome planetarium projection systems, and some experience in grant writing.
