UPDATE – MAPS 2020 Board of Directors Elections

Runoff Election Happening Now – Check your Email for your Electronic Ballot.
Runoff Election Ends April 6, 2020 at Midnight.

On behalf of the MAPS Executive Committee and the MAPS Election Committee, I’d like to bring you up to date about our election results for the three positions of MAPS Board.

At the conclusion of the election, which ended at midnight on February 29, 2020, Janet Stearns, who electronically set-up, monitored and implemented our online election, has informed our President April Whitt there was an individual with a clear majority of votes, plus three candidates with a three-way tie, who also had a majority of the vote at the conclusion of the election.

Our MAPS Constitution and By-Laws do not currently have language for a resolution with that election scenario. After much discussion, the MAPS Executive Committee’s final interpretation and ultimate election solution lies within Roberts Rules of Order.

A very long story short, according to Roberts Rules of Order, we need to re-run the election again, with all candidates except the candidate with the clear majority of the vote, who will be seated as one of the three winners. The other five candidates remain on the ballot and would be running for the remaining two seats for Board.

We will be in touch soon for the re-election and ultimate conclusion of MAPS election 2020.

MAPS 2020 Board of Directors Elections – Important Information

Dear MAPS Members,

The Officers regret to inform you that we have failed to meet our deadlines for requesting and accepting bids for nominations for the Executive Board positions. According to the By-Laws, Article V, Section 2, all nominations were to be received by November 1, and the slate of candidates presented to the Executive Committee by November 15. The list of candidates and their biographies were to be published in the Winter Edition of the Constellation, with the elections taking place in January. None of these deadlines were met this year.

Nominate a MAPS Member Colleague for a Board Position

We invite you to participate in a key activity for the Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society — the nomination of new Officers and Board Members. MAPS is committed to building a large and diverse pool of candidates, and that can only happen with your participation.

Proposed Amendment to By-Laws: Add Memorial Committee

To all MAPS members,

The Middle Atlantic Planetarium Society wishes to add a “Memorial Committee” to its list of Standing Committees. The Memorial Committee will recognize when someone passes away.

If approved by the membership, this committee will be added to the list of Standing Committees in our By-Laws under Article IV Section 1. As a MAPS member, you are being asked to vote for this change to our By-laws.
